2015 PSIFF Student Day

January 12, 2015 Tom Buck

9th and 10th grade DATA students arrive at the PSIFF Student Day

On January 12th, the Palm Springs Film Society and PSUSD's Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator, Louisa Castrodale invited students from all Coachella Valley High Schools to be a part of the Palm Springs International Film Festival Student Day. 200 Cathedral City High School DATA and Theatre students attended the event.

The first film screened was Natural Sciences, an original narrative of a young girl in search of her true identity and personal background. After the film, students were given the opportunity to participate in a Skype Q&A session with the film's star, Paula Galinelli Hertzog.

The second film screened was Keep On Keepin' On, a documentary following jazz legend Clark Terry his blind prodigy 23 year old Justin Kauflin as he learns from musical legends and works to build his career as a true jazz musician.

Kauflin, one of the film's main stars made a surprise appearance along with director Alan Hicks. Kauflin played several jazz tunes on the piano and held a quick Q&A session with students.

Student Day is always a highlight, and this year was no exception. Once again, students were able to learn about other cultures while participating in the visceral experience unique to film.
